Wale has already established himself as a premier rapper, working with Kid Cudi on multiple occasions and releasing his hit album Attention Deficit in 2009. He recently signed with Maybach, and quite honestly, it’s probably the best album to come off the label. The beats are phenomenal, and Wale’s flow is as fresh as ever, reminding me of a younger Mos Def. The album opens with a bang in Don’t Hold Your Applause, and the swag continues throughout the album with the help of big names of Kid Cudi, Big Sean, and of course the boss Rick Ross himself. The album is fairly balanced, with a slow jam found in Lotus Flower Bomb, a lively spit session in Chain Music, an upbeat journey with singer Lloyd in Sabotage, and a stripped track with Big Sean on an obviously Big Sean beat in Slight Work. Despite a few personal fallbacks (Cudi doesn’t get an actual verse on his track) and the fact that the album is a little lengthy for my taste, Wale’s Ambition is an well executed sophomore effort.
